UID 2D barcode

Data matrix code:
This is a type of 2D
barcode that can be read ultidirectionally vs. a linear code that can be read only right to left. Data matrix codes are different in that they hold much more data, have error correction built in, and require less space. Data matrix codes can be square or rectangular. Cell sizes are regulated by Mil-Std-130.

UID Lables, Tags, and Nameplates

We design and manufacture the basic and complex UID labels mandated for many U.S. Government materiel purchases. These labels may contain both plain text and a data matrix barcode that allows government agencies to identify and locate all their assets in a central database. We engrave UID data matrix marks and barcodes on a variety of materials and shapes, catering to your specific needs.

MLI provides the encryption of the bar code service. Using our industry-leading label design and barcoding software, we will encode your data elements and format them according to the rules of Mil-Std-130. The special characters, text element identifiers, and data are used by the scanner to read the IUID.

Encryption Data

Below are some examples of the typical layouts we provide:

Construct 1

Construct 1 UID label: This format is used when the IUID is unique using only an enterprise identifier (CAGE, Duns#) and a serial number. The item identifier is created with only data elements.

Construct 2

Construct 2 UID label: This format is used when a part number must be included to create a unique number. The IUID consists of an enterprise identifier, part number, and serial number. These items have three data elements.

Additional Text

Additional text: You can put whatever information you like on a data plate as long as the minimum information is there to satisfy Mil-Std–130. Optional text is typically not encoded into the data matrix code, but it is allowable in part or whole.

Data Matrix Code

Data matrix code only:
In extremely limited areas the UID label can be reduced to only the data matrix code and still be in compliance. We recommend that the serial number be placed in a small point size on each label to help visually identify the label.

UID direct part marking

Direct Part Marking: Some UID applications will not be satisfied by tags, labels, or nameplates; dynamic parts and others may need direct part marking. For these situations we offer molydenum trioxide permanent subsurface black marking for uncoated metals, as well as precision marking on anodized, powdercoated, or painted surfaces.
